This is a very interesting issue. As far as I know, all languages and cultures have words that should not be spoken. Mostly they are words that are acceptable in translation. I've wondered what will happen to English as F*** and C*** become totally common and lose their power. (I find it stupid that the press gets all horrified when a politician "drops the F-bomb" since they, and everyone else does it all the time.)
In my lifetime, I've seen "nigger" (sorry, "the N-word") go from daily parlance, at lease regionally, to being unacceptable in public just about everywhere.
